The Intel Xeon Gold 6148 is a 20-core, 40-thread processor from the first generation of the Xeon Scalable family, codenamed Skylake-SP. It runs at a 2.4 GHz base clock with turbo up to 3.7 GHz, carries 27.5 MB of L3 cache and fits a 150 W thermal envelope, which made it one of the most balanced SKUs of its generation: enough cores for virtualisation, a turbo clock high enough for per-thread work and a TDP that any LGA 3647 server built since 2017 can cool. It supports six channels of DDR4-2666 up to 768 GB per socket and provides 48 lanes of PCIe 3.0. Pulled 6148s come mostly from Dell PowerEdge R640 and R740, HPE ProLiant DL360 and DL380 Gen10, Lenovo ThinkSystem SR650 and Supermicro X11 systems that have reached the end of a lease or refresh cycle.
