The Dell PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U two-socket server from Dell's 14th generation, built around first- and second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors (Skylake-SP and Cascade Lake-SP, for example Xeon Gold 6130, Gold 6248 or Silver 4214). The chassis carries 24 DDR4 DIMM slots for up to 3 TB of registered memory, and its storage-dense layout is what sets it apart from the plain R740: up to 24 front 2.5-inch bays plus four mid-chassis and four rear bays, or 12 front 3.5-inch bays with a 3.5-inch mid cage, with up to 12 NVMe drives depending on the backplane.
