Seagate Exos X24 24TB SATA Enterprise Hard Drive

The Seagate Exos X24 24 TB (ST24000NM002H) is a 3.5-inch helium-sealed enterprise hard drive with a SATA 6 Gb/s interface, 7200 RPM spindle and 512 MB cache. It uses conventional magnetic recording (CMR), supports both 512e and 4Kn sector formats and reaches a sustained transfer rate of 285 MB/s. Seagate rates the drive for a 550 TB per year workload, 2.5 million hours MTBF and 24x7 operation, and backs it with a five-year limited warranty. A 12 Gb/s SAS version is sold under a separate part number.

Exos X24 is the capacity workhorse for cloud object storage, backup appliances, surveillance archives and media libraries, and it is the drive most storage integrators specify for 4U 60- and 90-bay JBODs. At 24 TB per slot, a 60-bay enclosure holds 1.44 PB raw. Buyers should match the sector format to the controller (512e is the safe default for mixed environments), check that enclosure firmware supports drives above 20 TB, and specify the SED or FIPS variants where encryption is mandatory. Exos drives are sold as bare OEM units, and for large deployments Seagate supplies them in 20-drive bulk packaging.
