The RF 85mm F1.2L USM is Canon’s fast portrait prime for the RF mount. It uses 13 elements in 9 groups, including Blue Spectrum Refractive (BR) optics against colour aberration and a ground aspherical element, with Air Sphere Coating to cut flare and ghosting. It has a 9-blade aperture, focuses down to 0.85 m (0.12x), is driven by a USM motor and has no optical stabiliser. Weather sealing and fluorine coatings on the front and rear elements are part of the L-series build. The lens weighs about 1,195 g and takes 82 mm filters.

The RF 85mm F1.2L USM DS is a separate model with the same specification plus Canon’s DS (Defocus Smoothing) coating, applied to two elements to give softer out-of-focus areas. The effect is strongest wide open and fades as the lens is stopped down, and the coating reduces light transmission to T2.2. Portrait and wedding photographers who want the softest backgrounds choose the DS; buyers who want the full f/1.2 light take the standard version. Retailers and rental houses often stock both, so please state the version split on each order. EU and Middle East versions are available, with the destination market confirmed per order.

Both versions are supplied new and factory-sealed, consolidated in Dubai and shipped with serial numbers listed per box.

What is the difference between the standard and DS versions?

The DS adds Canon’s Defocus Smoothing coating for softer backgrounds. In exchange it transmits less light (T2.2). Optics, size and weight are otherwise the same.

Can we mix both versions in one order?
