Canon RF 800mm F11 IS STM Lens

The RF 800mm F11 IS STM brings an 800 mm focal length to the RF system at a weight of about 1,260 g. Diffractive Optics and a fixed f/11 aperture keep it compact, and the barrel retracts to 281.8 mm for storage. It has 11 elements in 8 groups, a 4-stop optical Image Stabilizer, STM focusing and a minimum focus distance of 6 m (0.14x). It works with Canon RF extenders: with the 1.4x it becomes a 1120 mm f/16 lens, and with the 2x a 1600 mm f/22 lens, keeping autofocus and stabilisation in both cases. The filter thread is 95 mm.

Buyers are mostly camera shops serving wildlife and birding customers, nature-tour operators and rental houses, who offer it as a light, hand-holdable route to very long focal lengths. Two points belong in any product listing: the aperture is fixed at f/11, and Canon states that the camera’s AF area is reduced to about 40% horizontally and 60% vertically with this lens.
