The RF 45mm F1.2 STM is a compact f/1.2 standard prime that Canon announced in November 2025 alongside the EOS R6 Mark III. It weighs about 346 g and measures about 78.0 × 75.0 mm. The optical design has 9 elements in 7 groups, including a plastic-moulded (PMo) aspherical element, with a 9-blade aperture stopping down to f/16. A gear-type STM motor handles autofocus, which Canon positions for quiet video recording. Minimum focus is 0.45 m (0.13x), the filter thread is 67 mm, and the lens has a dedicated focus ring plus Canon's control ring. There is no optical stabilisation, and Canon does not list dust and drip resistance.
Retailers see it as a light, fast prime for EOS R buyers who want shallow depth of field without L-series size: portraits, street, weddings as a second lens, and creator video. On APS-C EOS R bodies it frames like a short telephoto, about 72 mm equivalent. The ES-73B hood is sold separately.
