The RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1L IS USM is Canon’s long L-series zoom for the RF mount. Its 20 elements in 14 groups include one Super UD and six UD elements, it has a 9-blade aperture, and Dual Nano USM motors with a floating focus group give fast, quiet autofocus and a minimum focus distance of 0.9 m at 100 mm (1.2 m at 500 mm), with 0.33x maximum magnification. The optical IS is rated at 5 stops. It accepts RF extenders only: the 1.4x makes it 420-700 mm f/8-10 and the 2x makes it 600-1000 mm f/11-14. It weighs about 1,530 g, takes 77 mm filters, is dust- and moisture-resistant and comes with a tripod mount ring.

Wildlife and sports photographers, safari operators, news agencies and rental houses buy this lens, and camera retailers offer it as the step up from consumer telephoto zooms.
