The WH-1000XM5 was Sony’s flagship over-ear headphone from 2022 until the XM6 arrived in 2025. It pairs the HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN1 with the Integrated Processor V1 to control eight noise-cancelling microphones, uses 30 mm drivers with a carbon fibre composite dome, and supports LDAC and multipoint connection. Battery life is up to 30 hours with noise cancelling on and 40 hours off; a full charge takes about 3.5 hours. The headphones weigh about 250 g and, unlike the XM6, do not fold.
Many retailers keep the XM5 in range below the XM6 because it still sells well in the premium segment. Trade colours are Black, Platinum Silver and Midnight Blue. Hardware is identical worldwide; regional boxes differ in language and warranty routing, so state the destination when ordering.
XM5 stock is supplied new and sealed from Dubai, with colour split and serial numbers listed on the packing documents.
