GoPro ships MISSION 1 while revenue falls 31% and a sale is explored

GoPro reported second-quarter 2026 results on 10 August. Revenue was $105 million, down 31.3% year on year, with hardware revenue of $76.0 million (down 39.9%) and subscription and service revenue of $29.0 million (up 10.6%), now 28% of the total. Camera sell-through was about 291,000 units, down 38%. Retail channel revenue fell 48% to $58 million while GoPro.com rose 13% to $47 million. GAAP net loss was $51.0 million, including a $19 million tariff refund benefit and a $15 million charge for component purchase commitments. Inventory stood at $86.7 million, up from $78.4 million at the end of 2025.

Two numbers point in different directions. Subscription attach rate reached a record 69%, up from 54% a year earlier, with subscription ARPU up 9%. But the filing states that there is substantial doubt about the company’s ability to continue as a going concern, and confirms that in May the board authorised a process to evaluate a potential sale of the company and other strategic alternatives. Founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman said the strategic review was continuing.

MISSION 1: a new line on a new processor

The product story is the MISSION 1 Series, announced on 20 April 2026 and on retail shelves worldwide from 29 May. All three models use the new GP3 processor and a 50MP 1-inch sensor. The MISSION 1 PRO records 8K60 and 4K240 in 16:9 and 8K30 open-gate 4:3, at $699.99 ($599.99 for subscribers); the MISSION 1 tops out at 8K30 and starts at $599.99; the MISSION 1 PRO Grip Edition is $779.99. Both fixed-lens models are waterproof to 20m without housing. The MISSION 1 PRO ILS, with a Micro Four Thirds mount, is weatherproof rather than waterproof and was scheduled for the third quarter at $699.99. In Australia the PRO lists at AUD 1,099.95 and in New Zealand at NZD 1,399.99. A GoPro-developed AGV motorcycle helmet achieved ECE 22.06 compliance in the quarter.

GoPro’s channel mix is shifting towards its own site and its subscription, which helps margin but means retail partners are seeing the steepest declines.

What it means for buyers

For wholesale buyers GoPro is now a supplier whose ownership may change within the planning horizon, which argues for shorter commitments: order against confirmed demand, avoid deep inventory of older HERO models unless pricing is clearly end-of-life, and keep MISSION 1 orders to the PRO and the standard model, which have the broadest retail support. Warranty and subscription benefits are tied to GoPro’s own ecosystem, so confirm how regional warranty is handled by your distributor and whether the subscriber price is available through retail channels in your market. With retail revenue down 48%, distributors may be more flexible on MOQs and terms than a year ago; that flexibility is worth using, but with an eye on the going-concern language in the filing.
