FCC lists DJI: Osmo Pocket 4 launches everywhere except the US

The FCC added DJI and all foreign-made drones to its Covered List on 22 December 2025. New DJI models such as the Osmo Pocket 4 cannot gain US authorisation, which reshapes where stock flows.

On 22 December 2025 the FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau added two groups to the Covered List: all uncrewed aircraft systems and their critical components produced in a foreign country, and all communications and video surveillance equipment and services from DJI and Autel Robotics, including subsidiaries and affiliates. The first rested on a national security determination issued on 21 December under the Secure Networks Act; the second on Section 1709 of the FY2025 National Defense Authorization Act.

The practical effect is narrower than the headlines. Covered equipment can no longer receive new FCC equipment authorisations, and without authorisation a new model cannot be legally marketed or imported for sale in the United States. Models authorised before 22 December may still be imported, sold and used, and the FCC may only restrict those after a public notice and comment period. DJI has challenged the listing, and the Department of Defense or Homeland Security can exempt specific products.

The Osmo Pocket 4 shows the new map

DJI announced the Osmo Pocket 4 on 16 April 2026 with shipping from 22 April: a 1-inch sensor, 4K at up to 240fps and 6K at 30fps, 107GB of built-in storage with microSD expansion, a 1,545mAh battery rated at 240 minutes, and a weight of 190.5g. In Europe the Essential Combo lists at €479, the Standard Combo at €499 and the Creator Combo at €619; in the UK, £429, £445 and £549. It is sold through DJI’s store and retailers across Europe and Asia. In the United States it is not sold at all. DJI’s statement reads: “The Osmo Pocket 4 will not be available in the US market as the application for authorization is still pending.”

A grey market followed. By August 2026 the dual-lens Osmo Pocket 4P, which also skipped the US, was appearing on secondary US listings at close to $800, and one buyer reported that activation can fail if the device detects a US location. Insta360, which is not listed, positioned its Luna Ultra, launched in June 2026 at $769 with a 1-inch 8K sensor and a Leica lens, as the US-legal alternative to the Pocket 4.

What it means for buyers

For buyers in the Gulf, Central Asia and Africa the listing is a supply-side opportunity and a compliance question at the same time. Supply: DJI’s newest cameras are made for every market except the US, so distributor allocations for the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are not competing with US demand. Compliance: units are regionally configured, so specify the CE or other regional variant, the plug type in the combo and the warranty region, and avoid US-routed stock of pre-listing models whose prices now reflect scarcity rather than cost. If customers in your market need US-compatible warranty service, Insta360 is the simpler line to carry. Keep MOQs flexible across Essential, Standard and Creator combos; the Creator Combo’s microphone and fill light make it the natural marketplace bundle.
