Sony launched the WF-1000XM6 on 12 February 2026 in Black and Platinum Silver at $329.99 in the United States, £250 in the UK and €300 in Europe. The US price is $30 above the WF-1000XM5’s launch price and makes these Sony’s most expensive true wireless earbuds to date.
The engineering changes are concentrated on noise cancelling. A new HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3e works with four microphones per earbud, up from three, and Sony claims about 25% more ambient noise reduction than the XM5, with the largest gains in the mid-to-high frequencies typical of commuting and public spaces. An adaptive optimiser adjusts for fit, including gaps between tip and ear canal. Audio processing moves to 32-bit and the driver uses a new split-material design. The buds are about 11% slimmer than the XM5, with a matte finish and a more pill-shaped body, and a ventilation structure is meant to reduce the occlusion effect from footsteps and chewing. Antennas are 1.5 times larger, which Sony links to better call quality.
What reviewers found
Stuff awarded five stars on launch day and called Sony “the gold standard” for the combination of noise cancelling, sound, comfort and battery, while noting that the gains over the previous generation are smaller than before. The reviewer found the cancelling remarkably effective on trains and aircraft, judged it better than Bose’s QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds Gen 2 in that respect, and came close to the rated eight hours with ANC on; five minutes of charging gave roughly an hour of playback. What Hi-Fi praised sound and cancelling but criticised the limited ear tip selection and the bulk of the case, and rated battery life as solid but unspectacular for a flagship. Tom’s Guide was positive on the upgrade but listed the case design and the price rise as the main objections.
Specifications otherwise hold steady: eight hours from the buds and 24 hours with the case, Qi wireless charging, IPX4 water resistance, LDAC, LE Audio and Auracast, two-device multipoint and 360 Reality Audio. There is no aptX, so LDAC is the only high-bitrate codec, and Apple’s AirPods Pro 3 carry a higher IP57 rating.
What it means for buyers
The XM6 is a straightforward successor at a higher price, which usually means the XM5 stays in the channel for a season at a discount. Buyers should run both: the XM5 for price-led marketplace listings and the XM6 for premium retail, with the two colours ordered in a ratio that reflects local preference for black. Confirm the regional SKU (the retail box and charger plug vary by market), Sony’s regional warranty handling and whether the Sound Connect app features are available in your customers’ language. As with any flagship audio product, document the supply chain and keep serial records for marketplace listings. MOQs can be modest; this is a steady replenishment item rather than a launch spike. InTechnologies can quote the WF-1000XM6 in EU and UAE packaging on request.
