Sony raises PS5, PS5 Pro and Portal prices worldwide from 2 April

Sony’s second PS5 price rise in under a year takes the Pro to $899.99 in the US and €899.99 in Europe. Gulf and Asian prices follow separately, which matters for channel planning.

On 27 March 2026 Sony Interactive Entertainment announced new recommended retail prices for the PS5, PS5 Digital Edition, PS5 Pro and the PlayStation Portal remote player, effective 2 April 2026. The post on the PlayStation Blog, signed by Isabelle Tomatis, vice president of global marketing, attributed the move to “continued pressures in the global economic landscape” and called it “a necessary step” to keep delivering the platform.

In the United States the standard PS5 moved to $649.99 (from $549.99), the Digital Edition to $599.99, the PS5 Pro to $899.99 (from $749.99) and the Portal to $249.99. The UK list is £569.99, £519.99, £789.99 and £219.99; Europe is €649.99, €599.99, €899.99 and €249.99; Japan is ¥97,980, ¥89,980, ¥137,980 and ¥39,980. This is the second increase in under a year: in August 2025 Sony had already added $50 to US console prices.

A staggered regional roll-out

The announcement covered four territories explicitly. For everyone else Sony pointed to “your local retailer or direct.playstation.com”, which left the Gulf without an official list on the day. Dubai-based tbreak noted that Virgin Megastore and Geekay Games had not updated their PlayStation prices when the news broke. A separate announcement followed on 26 April for Southeast Asia, where new prices took effect on 1 May: SGD 849 for the PS5 and SGD 1,167 for the Pro in Singapore, MYR 2,799 and MYR 3,999 in Malaysia, THB 20,990 and THB 30,990 in Thailand.

Sony’s post did not name components, but the increase landed in a period when memory and storage costs were rising sharply across the industry. Microsoft and Meta both cited memory prices explicitly when they raised console and headset prices in the following months, and Nintendo announced a Switch 2 increase for September. The PS5 Pro, the most memory-heavy of Sony’s three consoles, took the largest absolute step.

For the distribution channel the practical effect is a widening gap between list prices in different regions at different moments. Stock invoiced before 2 April in one market and after 1 May in another will carry different costs, and retailers in markets without an official date tend to re-price on their own schedule.

What it means for buyers

Buyers sourcing PS5 hardware for Gulf, Central Asian or African retail should specify the regional model code and plug type on every order, because the same console now carries visibly different list prices by territory and grey-channel arbitrage will attract attention from distributors. Check which region’s warranty applies and who services it locally; a unit bought on a European list and sold in Tashkent is a European warranty case. Expect pre-increase stock in the channel to clear quickly and plan MOQs on post-April costs rather than on old quotations.
