Insta360 announced the X6 on 12 August 2026 and put it on sale the same day through its own store, Amazon and authorised retailers, at $699.99 for the Standard Bundle and $799.99 for Essentials. That is $150 above the X5’s $549 launch price, which early reviews flagged as the main drawback. Additional bundles run from $750 for Travel and $770 for Motorcycle up to $930 for the Invisible Dive kit.
The headline change is the sensor pair: two custom 1/1.1-inch square Sony sensors that Insta360 describes as 1-inch-equivalent imaging across the full sphere, with 33% more area than the X5. They feed an 8-core 3.3GHz processor and two dedicated imaging chips. Video tops out at 8K 360 at 50fps, 6K at 60fps and 4K at 100fps, with 10-bit colour in Rec.709, Dolby Vision or I-Log profiles and Dolby Vision recorded in-camera. Photos reach 120MP in 360 mode and 42MP in single-lens mode.
Practicalities: battery, lenses, storage
The 2,600mAh Xtreme Battery is rated at 140 minutes of 8K30 360 recording, which Insta360 puts at 51% better than the X5, and charges to 80% in 24 minutes on a 30W PPS charger. Built-in storage is 64GB (47GB usable) with a microSD slot; Insta360 recommends V60 cards at minimum and V90 for high-bitrate 8K50 footage. The 2.32-inch OLED is rated at 1,200 nits and works with gloves. Replaceable Lens 2.0 is said to be five times more scratch-resistant than before, with replacement cost reduced by 60%. The body is waterproof to 20m without a case and to 60m with the Invisible Dive Case Pro, and weighs about 196g. Wi-Fi 6 transfers at up to 100MB/s and USB-C 3.0 at 450MB/s.
Software leans on on-device AI: AI Director builds a highlight edit when the camera is plugged in, PanoMind analysis runs locally and can be switched off, and Auto Edit 2.0 assembles a cut from one or more clips. T3 called the X6 the brand’s best 360 camera yet; TechRadar praised image quality but described the price as steep and the app as buggy at launch. Buyers who activated before 30 September received a year of Insta360+ Premium cloud storage, and a 90-day free replacement policy applied during the launch period.
What it means for buyers
The X6 is a premium step rather than a replacement at the X5’s price, so the X5 remains worth stocking as the entry 360 camera while the X6 takes the creator and motorcycle segment. Bundles rather than bare units are what sell on marketplaces; the Essentials and Motorcycle kits carry the accessories customers otherwise buy separately. Specify the regional kit and plug on every order, and note that Insta360’s magnetic mounts carry over from the X5 and X4, which lowers the accessory inventory risk. For sellers who ship cross-border, Insta360’s unrestricted US status is a practical advantage over DJI’s newest cameras. Start with small MOQs on the $930 Dive bundle; the volume will be in the two cheapest kits.
