Intel client CPUs in 2026: 200S Plus, Panther Lake and Nova Lake

On 11 March 2026 Intel announced the Core Ultra 200S Plus desktop processors, a refresh of Arrow Lake, with the first two models on sale from 26 March. heise reported that the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus has 8 performance and 16 efficiency cores, 36 MB of L3 cache and a 5.5 GHz maximum turbo at a recommended $299, and that the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus has 6 performance and 12 efficiency cores at $199. Intel did not add new chiplets; it enabled four more efficiency cores on each model, raised the die-to-die clock and lifted official memory support from DDR5-6400 to DDR5-7200. There is no new top model, so the Core Ultra 9 285K remains the flagship, now with the same core count as the cheaper 270K Plus and a 200 MHz higher peak clock.

For workstation buyers the 270K Plus changes the arithmetic in the mid-range: 24 cores at the price point previously occupied by the 20-core Core Ultra 7 265K. heise noted that higher memory speeds matter less while DDR5 is scarce and expensive.

Panther Lake for mobile workstations

At CES on 5 January 2026 Intel launched Core Ultra Series 3, code-named Panther Lake, its first client processors built on the Intel 18A process. ITdaily reported 14 models, all for laptops, ranging from 16 cores (4 performance, 8 efficiency, 4 low-power) down to 6, without multithreading, with NPUs of roughly 46 to 50 TOPS. The X models carry Intel Arc Pro B390 integrated graphics, which makes them the relevant parts for thin mobile workstations. First laptops were expected at the end of January.

Next comes Nova Lake. Canaltech reported on 23 January that Intel chief executive Lip-Bu Tan told a shareholder meeting that Nova Lake would arrive at the end of 2026. Reports that the desktop parts will use a new LGA-1954 socket and offer up to 52 cores have not been confirmed by Intel.

What it means for buyers

For desktop workstations ordered in 2026, the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus is the value point and the 285K remains the choice where peak single-thread clock matters. Treat these systems as fixed configurations: if Nova Lake does move to a new socket, as reported, Arrow Lake boards will not take it. For laptops, specify the exact Panther Lake model and whether it is an X part with Arc Pro graphics, because the family spans 6 to 16 cores. For managed fleets, confirm that the quoted model is a vPro variant and that the OEM lists it as certified for your design or engineering software. Ask for the memory configuration in writing, since DDR5 costs now move system prices more than CPU choice does, and confirm the warranty region for each unit.
